Tour de France

Tour de France

In 2018 the Tour de France is passing by Rosporden and if you are a fan there are two days when you can go and watch nearby, 11 July and 12th July.  On the 11th July the race starts in Lorient and finishes in historic Quimper, it passes through our local towns, Pont Aven Tregunc, Concarneau and St Yvi.  On the 12th July the race starts in Brest and finishes at the top of the Mur de Bretagne (which will be climbed twice by the riders).

Come along and cheer on the riders and see Chris Froome go for his 5th Tour de France win or Mark Cavendish race to win the stage on the streets of Quimper.  These are two of a number of British riders racing in the Tour and all support is welcome.

The Tour de France is an amazing spectacle for not just cycling enthusiasts and always has at least one stage in Brittany.  Usually it passes close by Keranmeriet every other year and is well worth taking a day out to go and watch.

Road closures start about an hour or so before the cavalcade passes through so take a picnic as there is also a wait between the cavalcade and the peléton arriving.  Children will enjoy the cavalcade as all the sponsors of the race decorate their vehicles and throw out sweets, drinks and souvenirs.  Then the cyclists cycle through followed by their support cars etc.
