Megalithic Stones at Carnac

The alignments of Carnac form the largest megalithic site in the world.  They were erected around 4 500 B.C. and it is generally accepted that they had a religous role.  The site is spread over 5kms and the stones are in lines, the largest site has 1099 stones and the tallest is 4m high.

It is an amazing sight and well worth a visit. Visit the tourist information centre before hand for an itinerary and map for the most important sites to see.  In the summer months there is also a little train that takes you around the sites in a 50 minute tour, it has running commentary in several languages including English.   It takes about an 40 minutes drive from here.
